Students acquire the basic knowledge of non-formal and formal logics, and understand concepts like argument, proof, fallacy, deduction, syntax and semantics, induction, argument from analogy, as well as basic formal methods, such as truth tables and natural deduction. They learn how to recognize, analyse and evaluate arguments and how to form their own cogent arguments. At the tutorials, they will use the methods of critical thinking and argumentation in analysing and evaluating scientific and philosophical papers and journal articles.
