Department of Psychology

Asst. Prof. Dr. Žan Lep

Žan Lep is an assistant professor in social psychology and a scientific associate with a background in developmental psychology. He teaches social and economic psychology subjects at the Department of Psychology, Faculty of Arts, University of Ljubljana, where he also graduated, and conducts his research at the Centre for Applied Epistemology, Educational Research Institute. He is the head of the Social Psychology and Policy Lab, the Chair of Social Psychology, and the deputy head of the Department of Psychology at the University of Ljubljana.

His research focuses on motivational and cognitive underpinnings of behaviour and decision-making broadly related to civic participation, politics, money, and health – issues that can help us understand complex social phenomena.

Regularly, he publishes in national and international scientific journals and edited volumes, serves in organisational and programme committees of scientific conferences, and contributes as a reviewer for numerous journals and awards. He is a member of several scientific associations and an alumnus of the Junior Researcher Programme, where he also led his research project. He (co-)edited two scientific monographs, published over 40 journal articles and chapters in edited volumes, and is active on the European Journal of Psychology Open editorial board. The University of Ljubljana awarded him a Special commendation for young higher education teachers and staff for his research and teaching achievements.

He believes that scientific findings can and should contribute to positive social changes. Therefore, he finds it necessary to share them with different audiences through talks, workshops, and media appearances. He thrives in interdisciplinary research groups and participates in several national and international research projects. He is a management committee member of a COST project and the leader of bilateral cooperation on political identities and their link with prosocial and pro-environmental behaviour in youth with colleagues from the University of Banja Luka.
